The Miracle Prescription of the Psychiatrist
A man went to see a psychiatrist because he had been suffering from severe insomnia and exhaustion lately.
He complained, “Doctor, I can’t catch a single wink of sleep. Every single time I lie down in bed, I get this terrifying feeling that a monster is hiding right underneath my bed. It’s driving me completely insane!”
The psychiatrist nodded knowingly, took notes in his ledger, and said, “This is a rather complex paranoid psychological syndrome. You will need to come here for regular treatment three times a week, lasting for about six months. The fee for each consultation is $100.”
Hearing the massive amount of money, the man said he needed to go home and think it over.
Three months later, the psychiatrist accidentally bumped into the man on the street. Noticing that he looked incredibly healthy, rosy-cheeked, and bursting with life, the doctor asked in surprise, “Oh, hello there! Why do you look so fantastic lately? Did you go get treatment somewhere else?”
The man laughed loudly and replied, “Oh, the other day I told this whole story to an old farmer who lives next door. He cured me in exactly two minutes for the price of a single can of beer!”
The psychiatrist’s professional pride was hurt. He raised an eyebrow and asked, “A farmer? What kind of miraculous therapy could he possibly have used?”
The man replied completely straight-faced, “He just asked me: ‘Are you stupid? Go home, grab a saw, and saw off all four legs of your bed. Let’s see where that monster hides then!’.”
