My mother is a Liar

This story shows us that Mother’s Love is unconditional

I was born into a poor family. Most of the time we didn’t have enough food to fill out hungry stomachs.

At a meal times my mother would often give me portion of her rice to eat and says: “Eat this rice son! I’m not hungry.”

When I was growing up, my resourceful mother spent her spare time fishing in a river near our house to provide a little more nutrition for us.

Often, whilst I would tuck into a delicious fish soup. My mother would sit beside me and eat the remaining meat off the bones.

I used my fork to search the soup bowl for some fish to offer to her. But she always refused, claiming: “Eat the fish son! I don’t like fish.”

Then, when I was a junior in High school, to fund my studies, my mother took on two extra jobs.

One night, as the winter was rolling in, I woke up from my sleep and saw that my mother was still awake and working to cover her extra work load.

“Mother, go to sleep! It’s late and tomorrow morning you have to go to work again” I said.

She just smiled and said: “Go to sleep dear, I’m not tired.”

After the death of my father, my poor mother had to provide for us as a single parent.

My family’s situation continued to worsen but we were blessed with a kind uncle who lived near by and help us out every now and then.

He advised mymother to marry again, but she said: “I don’t need love.”

After I finished school and got a job, it was finally time for my mother to retire.

I had a good enough salary and intended to have her live with me so she would be able to enjoy the rest of her life. But she refused, “I have enough money. I’m not used to that kind of life son.”

In her old age, she got stomach cancer and I had to be hospitalized. She looked so old and tired in that hospital bed looking so frail and weak, it was evident that the disease had raveged her body.

But my mother, with what little strength she had remaining, said: “Don’t cry my dear. I’m not in any pain.”

After telling me this last lie, my dearest mother closed her eyes, this time forever…

Our mothers are a blessing here on earth. For those of us lucky enough to still have our mothers, we must take every opportunity to thank them for their love, appreciate them for every sacrifice and help them through every hardship. You never know when might be our last chance.
