I was at grocery store buying some regular stuff, when I saw a woman with two kids.
She was buying basic items, two cans of cat foot, a can of tuna, a loaf of bread, a quart of milk, a package of cookies.
One of her children, who was probably 10 years old went to the chocolate corner. “Mom, I want to have this.”
“Let’s see if I have money for this, let’s first make a bill of the things we need.”
She went to the cash account.
I almost done my shopping and was standing there waiting for my turn.
She had her money in her hands holding them tightly. Cashier gave her the total, she was 86 cent short.
She checked her purse, no look. “Hey kid, maybe we can buy this chocolate later, come one put that back”
“But mom I want it” little kid got upset.
She glazed through her buying list there was nothing she can remove to fulfill the child’s desire.
Once again, she checked her purse maybe there is some money. But there wasn’t any.
The man ahead of me reached into his pocket, palmed a dollar, bent down as if to pick something up, and said,
“I think you dropped this”
– “Oh really?”
– “Yes mam”
“Oh maybe, I am holding them in my hands”
She paid the cashier.
“Honey! Here is your chocolate”
There was sparkles in her eyes.
The laughter of her kid for having some chocolate made me felt the happiness in their smiles.
The person was an angel and surely felt peace helping them.
At that moment I promised myself to help others just like the way that man did.
He showed how peaceful it is when you make someone smile.
I don’t want to live in the kind of world where we don’t look out for each other.
Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand.
I can’t change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit”.
