A teenager discovered a love letter detailing a secret affair that had been hidden for many years when he accidentally smashed some tiles while he was cleaning.
Loukas Cornes, 14 and his mother Dawn Cornes, 48, from Preston accidentally found an old letter that is said to be about 100 years old while cleaning their house. “My son was cleaning his room, when the 55 inch TV fell from his dresser and smashed some of the hearth tiles.” Dawn Cornes said.
Dawn Cornes and her son were delighted to have found the letter and excited when discovering an intriguing story behind it. “We thought it was a very sweet love letter, and were excited to find it.”, she added.
As can be seen from the letter captured and posted online, it seems that the owner of this letter is a man whose surname is said to be Habgood or Halgood. He appears to write this letter to his married lover and asks her to keep their relationship secret. After Dawn posted the letter on a Facebook group, other members helped her decipher the text.
There is no date on the letter but it is supposed to be written 100 years ago. Dawn told that her house might be built in 1917 and she only moved to this house in May this year. Based on the paper size and the writing, many people said the letter could be from around the 1920s. In addition, the meeting place of the couple mentioned in the letter is Fulwood tram corner and trams that have not run in the city for more than 80 years. When trying to use online archives to track Ronald down, some locals didn’t quite find a perfect match.
After posted online by Dawn, the letter attracted a lot of attention from from thousands likes and comments from netizens. Dawn and her son plans to keep the letter as a memento and frame it for the wall.
