Throughout her 102 years, Edie Simms has had a wide variety of experiences in her life, but until now, getting arrested wasn’t one of them.
Last Friday, September 30, the St. Louis, Missouri woman finally got to check that experience off her bucket list when she was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car that drove her to a senior center where she delivered handmade gifts to residents.
The rebellious senior wasn’t actually guilty of any crime, other than being extremely adorable.
Simms spent the last few years making and donating cases for glasses, pillows and scarves to members of the St.
Louis’ Five Star Senior Center. One member happened to be friends with a police officer, and so they asked the department to help Edie fulfill her rather unconventional wish.
The next thing she knew, Simms was being cuffed and put into the back of a police cruiser.
Local news station, WFAA, reported that Simms has made more than 400 items for the residents at the senior center over the past two years, but she’s never delivered the gifts in person.
“She was so excited that she can ride in a police car and she said, ‘Do you think you could put those handcuffs on me?’” Michael Howard, executive director of the center remarked.
“A St. Louis County car pulled up next to the police and Edie holds up her hands with the handcuffs on. She’s just a riot,” he added.
They escorted her to the Senior Center where she played some bingo with the members and handed out some homemade socks.
Asked if she enjoyed the experience, Simms said “oh yeah, handcuffs and all.”
